Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a prevalent condition that affects many individuals, particularly those who perform repetitive tasks with their hands. This disorder occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm, becomes compressed at the wrist. Symptoms can include discomfort, numbness, and tingling sensations in the fingers and hand, which can significantly disrupt daily activities.
Understanding the Causes
Several factors can lead to the development of this condition, including:
- Repetitive Motion: Activities that involve frequent wrist flexion or extension can cause swelling and pressure on the median nerve.
- Underlying Health Issues: Conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid disorders can heighten the risk of developing CTS.
- Previous Injuries: Past wrist injuries may alter the anatomy of the wrist, contributing to nerve compression.
Identifying Symptoms
Individuals suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may experience a variety of symptoms, including:
- Numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, middle, and part of the ring finger.
- Pain that may radiate up the arm.
- Weakness in the hand, making it challenging to grasp objects.
Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Include:
Numbness
Tingling
Burning pain in the hands
Burning pain in the wrists

Non-Invasive Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel pain can be debilitating and prevent you from doing things you love or even prevent you from doing your job if it involves any hand or wrist dependency. Carpal tunnel can be caused by repetitive motion of the hand stemming from one’s occupation or an underlying medical issue such as diabetes or hypothyroidism. Carpal tunnel syndrome can also be a result of genetics. Carpal tunnel syndrome is most often seen in adults and especially in women.
Oftentimes, doctors are quick to recommend surgery for carpal tunnel, and oftentimes the surgery is unsuccessful in curing and relieving the pain. Pain-relieving medications are also often prescribed to mask the symptoms and pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, but never treat the root cause. At Nordik Chiropractic, we treat your carpal tunnel syndrome at the source so you can get relief that lasts without being dependent on medicine that can have bad side effects.
By using a holistic and non-invasive approach, we are able to pinpoint the source of pressure on your median nerve and relieve it. We use gentle and effective manipulations to improve hand and wrist mobility and increase strength in both areas. We will also provide you with effective exercises and tips on preventing future pain.
Other Treatment Strategies
There are several effective treatment strategies for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, ranging from conservative measures to surgical interventions:
Treatment Method | Description | Effectiveness |
---|---|---|
Wrist Splinting | Using a splint at night can help maintain the wrist in a neutral position, alleviating pressure on the median nerve. | Could be effective for mild to moderate cases. |
Physical Therapy | Exercises and stretches can enhance wrist flexibility and strength, reducing symptoms. | Beneficial for many patients. |
Corticosteroid Injections | Injections can decrease inflammation and swelling around the median nerve. | Provides temporary relief for some patients. |
Endoscopic Surgery | A minimally invasive procedure that involves cutting the ligament to relieve pressure on the nerve. | Could be highly effective for severe cases. |
Key Takeaways
Understanding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and its treatment options is essential for those affected. By recognizing the symptoms and seeking appropriate care, individuals can significantly enhance their quality of life.
Additional Treatment Options
In addition to the previously mentioned treatments, there are other methods that may help alleviate symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
Treatment Method | Description | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|---|
Acupuncture | A traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. | May provide pain relief and improve function. | Results can vary; not suitable for everyone. |
Ergonomic Adjustments | Modifying workstations and tools to reduce strain on the wrist. | Can prevent symptoms from worsening; promotes better posture. | Requires commitment to change habits and environments. |
Alternative Therapies | Includes methods such as massage therapy and chiropractic care. | May relieve tension and improve circulation. | Effectiveness varies; should be done by qualified professionals. |
Prevention Strategies
Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is crucial, especially for individuals at higher risk. Here are some strategies that may be effective:
- Take Frequent Breaks: Regularly rest your hands and wrists during repetitive tasks to reduce strain.
- Maintain Proper Posture: Ensure that your workstation is ergonomically designed to support your wrists and hands.
- Stretch and Strengthen: Incorporate wrist and hand exercises into your daily routine to improve flexibility and strength.
- Use Proper Tools: Opt for tools that are designed to minimize strain on your hands, such as ergonomic keyboards and mice.

Dr. A and Dr. G are amazing and truly caring people!
I wasn’t able to walk and passed out because I was in so much pain due to a herniated disc that was hitting the spinal nerve. Within a week, under Dr. Andris’s care and expertise I now have no pain and I am on my way to recovery. I can not thank Dr. A enough for his help, he saw me twice a day, even over the weekend when there are no office hours. I look forward to the progress I will continue to make and I will continue to go see Dr. A! If you are in need of a chiropractor, seriously look no further, give them a try and you will not be disappointed.
